Global Short Film Awards Marks Ten Years with Black-Tie Cannes Gala

The 10th Annual Global Short Film Awards gala was one of the most sought after events in Cannes in May 2025. Held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, the gala was a delightful evening celebrating film, fashion and beauty, with music, entertainment, and gourmet delights. The breathtaking view of Cannes harbor from the rooftop of the prestigious Canopy Hilton was the backdrop for the unforgettable occasion.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award to Cuba Gooding, Jr. Mr. Gooding is a well-known major Hollywood actor and winner of an Academy® Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the hit movie Jerry Maguire. He has been in many other major films including A Few Good Men, Gladiator, As Good As It Gets, Norbit and Linewatch. He portrayed Dr. Ben Carson in the film Gifted Hands and OJ Simpson in the FX drama The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story. He has also appeared in several Broadway and West End theater productions, has been nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, and has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by Emmy-award winning actor and producer Vincent DePaul, who is appearing with Mr. Gooding in the upcoming film A Line of Fire.

A luxury fashion show by designer Andres Aquino – who is also the founder of the Global Short Film Awards – showcased an ethereal collection of luscious hand-printed silk designs celebrating nature and colorful birds from around the world. The collection was styled by Vietnamese fashion powerhouse Cory Couture Productions and featured exquisite hair and makeup styling by the Giuseppe Barra team from Italy. The models included top beauty queens and award winners from many countries, including a group from Prestige Models in Cyprus. This year’s Top Model Award was presented to Sarah Larissa Bruns, a rising star in the field and Miss Germany World 2024. Her experience was documented by RTL TV, one of Germany’s major media outlets.

The fashion portion of the evening also included the showing of a curated selection of menswear creations by rising New York fashion designer Majid Desire.

Wine for the evening was sponsored by Sip Channe, and the wine label’s founder Kavita Channe also co-hosted the event with Vincent DePaul. Ms. Channe is a multi-talented entrepreneur widely recognized for her role as an acclaimed TV host and producer across the sports and entertainment industries, including the NFL, Fox Sports, HBO, VH1 and TLC.

Enhancing the gala was entertainment by singers Yvonne Spark, Lubovnicca and tenor Massimo Cims. DJ Somnous provided the music vibe.  International press covered the event.

A special afternoon of film and winning trailer screenings was held the day before at the Loho Auditorium at the Eden Hotel and Spa in Cannes, in partnership with a film project organized by Professor Karl Bardosh of New York University.

Global Short Film Awards Celebrate Excellence in Film, Fashion and Music at its Cannes Gala

The 9th Annual black-tie gala features exciting sponsors, performers and partnerships at one of the most iconic venues in Cannes, France.

The Global Short Film Awards will return to the iconic Carlton Cannes for its 9th annual gala on 24 May 2024. Held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, the event will be a very special evening celebrating excellence in short films. The dinner gala also includes thrilling musical performances, a silent auction to benefit Pink Ribbon Monaco, and a luxury fashion show by designer Andres Aquino, who is also the founder and director of the GSF Awards. Global Short Film Awards 2024 winning films

The 2024 winning films in the popular competition include outstanding entries in multiple categories from the USA, Italy, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, the Russian Federation, Mexico, China and Canada. The Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress awards will be announced at the gala. The evening will be hosted by Emmy Award-winning actor and producer Vincent DePaul.

Students will gain valuable experience at the awards gala and fashion show in Cannes, France.

The Global Short Film Awards is pleased to partner with two dynamic student volunteer groups during its 9th annual awards and fashion show gala. The black-tie event will be held on 24 May 2024 at the iconic Carlton Cannes, concurrently with the world-famous Cannes Film Festival. The GSF Awards recognize excellence in short filmmaking, and the 2024 winners represent some outstanding works by filmmakers from around the world.

Participating in this exciting event will be:

1. Fashion for Futures. Under the leadership of CEO Ilyssa Wexler, and Professor at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in Florence, Italy, this program offers students a unique convergence of economics, backstage training, and business acumen within the fashion industry. This initiative provides a comprehensive understanding of the economic forces shaping the fashion world, equipping students with the tools to navigate and succeed in this competitive landscape. With a focus on real-world applications, Fashion for Futures emphasizes the importance of backstage training, where students gain hands-on experience in the logistical, production, and operational aspects of fashion. This approach prepares students for the complexities of the fashion business world, ensuring they become well-rounded professionals ready to make a significant impact in the fashion industry.

Coleg Gwent and Fashion for Futures

2. Coleg Gwent, Cwmbran, Torfaen, Wales will bring a group of photography students to gain valuable experience as an important part of the Cannes event. As part of the students’ work experience, Coleg Gwent, in partnership with Jera Creative Agency, is providing students the opportunities and works to bridge the gaps between the college and the associates they work with in the fashion and creative industry. The benefit of this experience for the students outweighs any qualification, that industry experience is what gives the students the needed skills to seek future employment or entry into higher education (University). The seventh annual Global Short Film Awards Gala will be held at the JW Marriott in Cannes, France on 20 May 2022. Held concurrently with the Cannes Film Festival, the festive black-tie evening features awards presentations, fashion shows, films in 3-D, red carpet, champagne reception, dinner and entertainment. Rising Star Sia to Be Featured at the Global Short Film Awards Gala in Cannes

Sia is a young aspiring dancer, actress and model with a brilliant future ahead of her. Sia will appear in the Global Short Film Awards Gala in Cannes, France on 12 July 2021 as a model for fashion designer Andres Aquino. She will also be seen on the world-famous red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Sia is looking forward to the tremendous opportunity in participating in these exciting events in Cannes.

Currently a high school sophomore in the USA, Sia is the daughter of immigrant parents; her dad is an IT professional and her mom is a photographer and social worker. Sia has a keen interest in fashion, acting and dance, and has participated in various pageants, competitions and acting workshops in both the USA and India. She is currently studying kathak (Indian classical dance), and is fluent in English, Gujrati and Hindi. Sia is vice president of her high school fashion club, and participates in various cultural, academic, social and volunteer services.

Fashion designer and humanitarian Anjali Phougat’s latest short film is all about kindness and inclusivity of every kind of person. Inclusion Through Unity is conceptualized by Anjali and Natasha-Vincent Gay.  The 2021 Global Short Film Awards has named the film Best Short Shot, and it will be screened during the GSF Awards Gala in Cannes, France on 12 July 2021. Inclusion Through Unity

“As a founder of fashion house Designerdreamcollection, I enjoy being creative and my brand supports inclusion,” says Anjali. “I also want to make short films about how we can change the world through unity, kindness and inclusivity.” For the film, Anjali collaborated with Natasha Vincent-Gay, a highly creative influencer and published gender fluid model. Other key members of the film project are Alex Rogers (direction and cinematography), Caroline O’Brien (photography and choreography) with makeup and hair by Arunita Ghosh, Imani and Lina lelli. The film stars Reshá Sukoshi, Clare Winkler, Natasha-Vincent Gay, Mounika Siriguppi (Miss South Asia World 2020), and Anjali herself. Anjali also designed the jewelry used in the film, as well as a gown for Mounika.

Inclusion Through Unity gives a message to celebrate every culture with love and support. It also promotes gender equality, inclusion and diversity.

Anjali was not nervous facing the camera, in fact she is quite comfortable. “Being a fashion designer and chat show host, I have lots of experience performing in front of the camera. The first time I faced the camera was at the age of 16 for various fashion shows and I also did fashion shoots for multiple big brands,” she adds with a smile. As a designer, show has shown her luxury fashion and jewelry designs at prestigious events including Couture Fashion Week New York.
